Hi there, Phil. I loved your book "Ties That Bind"...very interesting story behind. I thought of writing, but right now...i'm not very good it though. something like this...As I ran along the path the led through the forest in the park, I suddenly heard , what sounded like a dog whimpering along the edge of the one-hundred foot drop beside the path. I looked over the edge, and saw a small dog, just as I was turning to my partner, as shot rang out my partner was on the ground, bleeding from the wound in his neck. They took him to the emergency, but three hours later he died of complaications through the open operation while trying to get the 30-06 projectile that passed through his neck.

I wouldn't mind going further, but I'd have to think why this kind of thing happened in the first place....anybody got any ideas..?

Dear Andrew:My novels usually start with a short idea like yours. To turn the idea from an idea into a whole book I ask myself "who" the people are; "where" the story is taking place; "why" the incident occured; "what" the characters are going to do; and "how" the characters will get where they want to go. It usually takes me a year or more (sometimes as many as ten years) to work out the whole story. Take notes as each answer occurs to you, let your imagination run with a story line until it gets implausible. If you want to write keep going. Even if you never get published you'll have a lot of fun. Good luck. Phil
