Dear TPau: I don't know if someone was hung in Forest park in the late 1970s. A hanging was not involved in the Peyton-Allen case that formed the basis for "Heartstone." Phil

Thank you. I realize Heartstone (which is a great book by the way) does not have a vendetta hanging of the killer(s). It was something I heard a long time ago, about a boy and girl who had suffered a similar fate to Ritchie and Elaine; but in this version, when there was not enough evidence to bring the killer/ rapist to justice, a group of men assured of his guilt got together and hung him in Forest park. This supposedly took place approx. 35 years ago.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading your book, "Heartstone," Phil, and was definitely surprised with the books ending.  I had lived most of my life in the westhills of Portland and remember back when the Peyton-Allan murder took place.  A friend asked me if I knew why you had entitled your book, "Heartstone" and referred to the girl's murderer.  Any inside on this, Phil?  I am now reading "Undertaker's Widow" and you have a new fan.  Thanks again, Phil.  Jeanette (Hall)
