I enjoyed the book, and perhaps I took a nap along the way, but I never saw any further mention of who either committed the crime (Miles? natural mom? or ?) of coming in to the dormitory to kill Ashley when she was alone and protected by police. As I recollect, the guard outside her room was killed, as well as at least one other guard.

After the incident, there was nothing more about this in the balance of the book. It was mentioned in the prosecution of Joshua or later at the story's ending.

I'm just wondering what the deal was.
